Image audit
The audit reads every product image (read-only) and checks:
| Problem | What it means | How to fix |
|---|---|---|
| No alt text | Search engines and screen readers can't tell what the image shows | Fix alt text |
| Alt text too short / a file name | One word, or something like IMG_4521.jpg | Fix alt text |
| Same alt text on several images | The gallery repeats one description | Write what differs |
| Meaningless file name | IMG_1234, DSC0001, a hash | Upload with a descriptive name |
| Too small / low resolution | Under 500 px / under 800 px; zoom looks poor | Use 2048 px square |
| Looks blurry | The product's edges are soft | Use a sharper photo |
| Duplicate image | The same picture twice in a gallery | Remove the copy |
| Broken | Shopify couldn't process the file | Upload again |
| Mixed shapes | Square and wide images in one gallery | Tidy images |
| Background not white | Main image on a coloured background (Google Shopping prefers white) | Retake or tidy |
| Very large file | Over 2 MB | Shopify serves smaller copies; optional |
Each image gets a score: 100 minus a weight per problem. The store score is the average. One audit can run every 5 minutes per store.
Fix alt text
Patterns use these placeholders:
| Placeholder | Meaning |
|---|---|
{title} | Product title |
{vendor} | Brand (skipped when the title already starts with it) |
{type} | Product type |
{n} / {count} | Image position / number of images |
A one-image product doesn't get "image 1". Text is cut at 125 characters. Your default pattern is a setting of the Bulk alt text module.
Tidy images
Only product shots on a plain background (all four corners the same colour) are changed:
- empty margins are trimmed and the product is centred with an even margin (default 6 %)
- the image becomes square in its own background colour (or a colour you choose)
- maximum size 2048 px (setting); small images are never enlarged
- the original file is stored; Undo puts it back exactly
The image keeps its place, ID and alt text: the file is replaced in place.
Variant photos
Each variant gets the photo whose alt text or file name names its option value: red-dog-lead.jpg or "Red dog lead" for Colour = Red. Sizes like S, M, L only match when written as "size L" or as their own part of a file name (harness-l.jpg), so ordinary words never match by accident. Photos that match every variant are not used.
History, undo and restore points
- Change batches: every bulk change is a batch. Undo restores alt texts, original files and variant photos.
- Restore points: snapshots of which images each product has, in what order and with what alt text. One is made automatically before every bulk change, and you can make your own. Compare shows what changed since; Restore puts alt text and order back for the whole point or chosen products. A safety point is made first. The last 50 are kept.
Modules
Every feature is a module you can switch on or off (Modules page or MCP). History & undo is always on. A module that your plan doesn't include counts as off.
Themes
Themes change how ShopPress looks inside your admin (not your store): Shopify default, Dark, Midnight blue, Ocean, Forest, Sunset, High contrast, or follow my device (dark when your device is dark). Make your own from 13 colours; every button, field and badge colour is worked out from them.

Backups
Backups holds a copy of your whole ShopPress set-up: plugins with their code, settings and stored data, modules and themes. Secrets are never included. Back up now, Download a backup as a file, Restore a stored backup or upload a file (also from another store, to move a set-up). Restoring makes a safety backup first. Studio plans back up automatically every day (last 7 kept).
Background jobs
Audits, large fixes and automatic plugin runs are background jobs. They keep going if you close the page and resume after app updates. History & undo shows recent jobs with their progress; failed jobs retry automatically (1, 4, 16 minutes) before they are marked failed.
